Project Overview

Biokum is an eco-conscious e-commerce platform that enables sustainable brands to sell their products through a custom-branded mobile app. Built as a white-label mobile app solution, Biokum provides green businesses with a cost-effective way to reach mobile-first consumers.

The client wanted to create an accessible, scalable, and user-friendly shopping experience specifically for eco-friendly brands and conscious consumers. They also needed automated subscription models, seamless inventory syncing, and impact tracking for sustainability metrics.


Challenges & Problems Solved

  • Supporting Sustainable Businesses Efficiently:
    • 🔹 Traditional e-commerce platforms often lack specialized features for sustainable brands, such as product impact tracking and eco-certifications. We integrated filters for sustainable shopping, allowing customers to browse products based on their carbon footprint, organic certification, or ethical sourcing.
  • Subscription Model for Repeat Orders:
    • 🔹 To encourage eco-conscious consumption, we implemented a recurring order system that allows customers to subscribe to sustainable product deliveries—whether for food, personal care, or household essentials. This increased customer retention and lifetime value (LTV).
  • Green Hosting & Carbon-Neutral API Integrations:
    • 🔹 Since sustainability was a core priority, we ensured all cloud services were hosted on carbon-neutral infrastructure. This reduced server emissions, ensuring alignment with the brand’s environmental goals.
  • Seamless E-commerce Backend Integration:
    • 🔹 Many vendors using Biokum already had WooCommerce and Shopify stores. We developed a real-time sync mechanism that automatically updates product listings, stock availability, and pricing across platforms.
  • Optimized Performance for Mobile Shopping:
    • 🔹 To provide a fast and smooth mobile experience, we built the app using Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) for shared business logic, Jetpack Compose for Android UI, and SwiftUI for iOS. This approach reduced development time by 30% while maintaining a native, high-performance experience.
