Project Overview

DiabTrend is an AI-powered application that revolutionizes diabetes management. The goal was to develop a mobile app that simplifies patients' daily lives through AI-driven tracking, meal recognition, and personalized glucose predictions. The app aims to significantly ease diabetes management, provide more accurate insights, and help users achieve optimal control.


Challenges & Problems Solved

  • ✅ Intelligent Meal Recognition & Carb Estimation:
    • 🔹 Manual food logging is tedious and inaccurate for carb estimation. Therefore, we developed an AI-powered image recognition system that allows users to record their meals with a simple photo, and the app automatically estimates the carbohydrate content.
  • ✅ Voice-Based Data Logging:
    • 🔹 The need for immediate, hands-free data entry, especially in situations where typing is inconvenient (e.g., while driving, eating). We integrated a voice-based logging function for quick and convenient recording of meals, insulin doses, and other relevant data.
  • ✅ Personalized Glucose Prediction:
    • 🔹 Users often struggle to predict their future blood sugar levels, making proactive management difficult. We applied machine learning models that provide personalized glucose forecasts based on historical data (diet, activity, insulin).
  • ✅ Smart Integrations with Health Devices:
    • 🔹 Data fragmentation between various devices (sensors, other health apps). We implemented seamless integration with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensors, Google Fit, and Apple Health for a more complete data picture and a holistic overview of the users' health status.
  • ✅ Reminders and Alerts:
    • 🔹 Users often miss medication doses or fail to notice critical blood sugar fluctuations in time. We introduced customizable reminders (medication dosage, measurement) and real-time alerts (hypo-/hyperglycemia) for improved safety and proactive management.
